John Cena & Kevin Hart May Team Up For The Knight Rider Reboot

Earlier this month we reported that David Hasselhoff and Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2 director, James Gunn are in talks to discuss a Knight Rider reboot. Hasselhoff was too tight lipped about his plans and did not give much to the media. Now, there are reports that a Knight Rider reboot may happen with WWE’s John Cena and Ride Along star Kevin Hart. While this is exciting news but Hasselhoff may not like this. The actor recently mentioned that he doesn’t want a comic reboot of the hit TV show and would like the movie to be “serious” and “gritty”.

Screen Rant broke the news that Weinstein Company is very much interested in making the Knight Rider reboot and planning to cast John Cena as Michael Knight & eyeing the hilarious Kevin Hart to voice KITT, the intelligent crime fighting car. Currently, there is no official news of this actually happening but the studio seems to be very “interested in getting them on board.” What’s even more interesting is that Hasselhoff specifically told The Hollywood Reporter that he wants Knight Rider reboot to be dark and would prefer it to be done like Logan. He further added that he most definitely wouldn’t settle for a 21 Jump Street style reboot. In his own words:

“I’ve given some ideas to James for Knight Rider and he responded in a big way. If it does go forward, I don’t want it to be spoofed like Baywatch or 21 Jump Street. Those films lose what it’s about and you have to respect the fans.”

Those of you who don’t know about Knight Rider, it was a popular TV series which aired back in 1982. The series was about Michael Knight, a brave crime fighter aided by his artificially intelligent car named KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand). The show ran for 4 seasons and earned one Emmy nomination. Knight Rider reboot has been attempted in the recent years but so far those efforts have been futile. Just last year Fast & The Furious franchise director Justin Lin was in talks to create a Knight Rider reboot web series for Machinima, however, the plan was canned. If the rising star John Cena and fan favorite Kevin Hart both join this project, this could turn into a huge thing. Stay tuned for more and latest Hollywood news.
