Infinity War Director Confirms Thor’s Story Picks Up Right After Ragnarok

2018 is finally here and it’s going to bring some great movies with it but according to several polls Avengers: Infinity War is the most anticipated movie of 2018. Marvel released the official Avengers: Infinity War trailer back in November and within 24 hours, it became the most viewed movie trailer in Hollywood and YouTube’s history. The movie is in the very capable hands of the Anthony and Joseph (Joe) Russo Brothers (Captain America: Civil War) who are going to direct the Avengers 4 as well. Recently, The Russo brothers gave an interview during which Anthony was asked about his favorite hero who he is looking forward to seeing the most in the movie. Anthony answered that as a director, he is excited about Thor’s story the most as it picks up right after the events of Thor: Ragnarok. This is what the director said:

“I’m going to pick Thor because Thor, we’re picking up his story from the end of Thor: Ragnarok and at the end of that film as any fan would know his home planet of Asgard is destroyed, and so the character is in new territory so to speak, because his past has been torn away from him to a degree.”

Anthony also thinks that right now Thor’s character is in a very similar situation to Captain America from Winter Soldier as Thor is now growing out of his old story just like Captain America and going through his very own “radical transformation.” As we already know that Thor’s transformation both physically and mentally began in Ragnarok so it’s going to be exciting to see how his story further develops in Avengers: Infinity War. According to Anthony:

“I think it’s very similar to Captain America’s situation when we picked up his story in Winter Solider when Joe and I came on to do our first movie for Marvel. Cap was in a place where we were very much catching him up in the modern world and seeing what that meant to him, and figuring out how you move a character that far forward and that far away from where they started back during the 40s, so I think in Thor we have similar opportunities with that character in this movie is that he’s going through a radical transformation and he’s moving forward in a way where he can never go back, and that’s always a fun place to be with a character as a storyteller.”

Just last week, some new images hit the internet in which Guardians of the Galaxy were shown taking care of a battered, bloody and confused Thor. If you look at it in the context of what the director just mentioned and the post-credit scenes of Thor: Ragnarok, it looks like Thor will be Thanos’ first opponent and his battle with the Mad Titan must be brutal. We reported earlier that Kevin Feige, Marvel’s president, has already promised his fans that the first 5 minutes of Avengers: Infinity War are going to be devastating and it looks like he may have been referring to an opening epic battle between the Mad Titan Thanos and The God of Thunder, Thor. It is just a speculation at this point but at least we won’t have to wait much longer now as the movie is scheduled to hit theaters on May 4th, 2018, and with every passing day, the hype is only increasing.
