We reported earlier that Disney is all set to purchase most of Fox and it’s expected that an official announcement will be made any day now. Not only Disney will end up owning most of the assets Fox has, it will also acquire a number of famous fan-favorite film franchises, one of which is, The X-Men. In other words, fans would be able to see several cross-overs on the big screen they could only dream of before. Recently, some new reports/rumors surfaced that Hugh Jackman may consider coming back to play Wolverine in Avengers 4 if the deal between Disney and Fox takes place. Naturally, the chance of seeing the iconic Wolverine fighting alongside the likes of Thor, The Ironman, Captain America and other Marvel exclusive superheroes got the fans excited. Now, the Wolverine himself has made it official and to the dismay of millions of Marvel and X-Men fans, Jackman confirmed that he won’t be putting on the claws anymore.
Jackman is currently busy promoting his new movie, The Greatest Showman and was asked point blank during an interview, whether or not it’s possible that he’ll reprise his iconic role in a future Marvel movie in case the Disney and Fox deal happens. Here’s how Jackman responded:
“It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, ‘Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,’ and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline, it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously, I was like, ‘Hang on!’ But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else, I would like to see Wolverine in there.”
As we know already that Hugh Jackman last appeared as the legendary Wolverine in Logan, earlier this year and it was a massive hit. Even before the movie came out, Jackman made it clear that Logan will be his final performance as Wolverine, a character he’s been portraying successfully for 17 years. Logan went on to earn $616.8 Million on a budget of $97 Million, making it a blockbuster. No wonder, Fox CEO Stacey Snider revealed in an interview earlier this year that a Wolverine reboot is very much on the table and a new actor can take on the mantle of Wolverine, indicating that Hugh Jackman has no intention of coming back. Even now, the actor revealed that he has no idea how things will pan out in his future but he’s definitely ready for anything:
“Never before have I felt the landscape so bare, maybe I should be worried about that. But… I just finished, wrapped a film with Jason Reitman called The Front Runner, which is a political comedy and I do feel right now very open and excited to have no idea what is coming next.”
Even if the fans don’t see Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, The X-Men joining the MCU and Avengers is very much possible now since this Disney/Fox merger is taking place. This ultimately means that the character of Wolverine may end up becoming the part of MCU as well. If or when that happens, Hugh Jackman won’t have any problem with it as he confirmed in his interview with Collider. Stay tuned for more and latest Hollywood news.
