It’s a great time to be a Star Wars fan as a lot is happening in this exciting universe. Star Wars: The Last Jedi recently crossed the monumental $1 Billion mark at the worldwide box office and secured its place in the top 20 highest grossing movies in the history. The next Star Wars movie to hit theaters on May 25, 2018, is Solo: A Star Wars Story which is a spin-off. However, fans are more eager to see the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie which is expected to grace the theaters in 2020. Just recently, a new photo of Ewan McGregor instantly went viral on social media. Judging by Ewan’s all too familiar haircut and beard, it seems like the actor is actually working out in order to make his return as Obi Wan Kenobi. We reported last year that Disney and Lucasfilm are planning to make the Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off movie and it may start production in 2019 to meet its 2020 (unspecified) release date. But now this new image of McGregor doing P90X training suggests that we may see the actor in the upcoming Star Wars 9.
For now, there is not much information available about the Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off movie except that Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Reader, The Hours) has been in talks to direct this much-anticipated movie. Its been a while since Ewan McGregor was seen in the iconic Star Wars character and since then has mentioned on several different occasions that he would very much “love” to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi. In this new image, McGregor can be seen training with the famous fitness guru Tony Horton, sporting the iconic Obi-Wan Kenobi beard and haircut and while fans would like to think that the actor is getting ready for the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, there is a strong possibility that Ewan maybe getting in shape to appear as a Force Ghost in J.J Abrams’ Star Wars 9.
This is at best a speculation at this point because Ewan himself isn’t aware of the current status of the movie. McGregor recently won a Golden Globe for Fargo and during an interview, he was asked about whether or not he’ll be coming back in the titular role of the Obi-Wan spin-off movie. McGregor responded that so far he’s only had “unofficial talks” and that he’ll “love” to play the role again. In his own words:
“There’s a lot of talk, I’d be happy to play him again, but I don’t know any more about it than you do.”
While we wait for any official news regarding the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, the upcoming Star Wars spin-off, Solo: A Star Wars Story is set to hit theaters on May 25, 2018. Till then, stay tuned for more and latest Hollywood news.
